SAN LORENZO hydroelectric plant

This hydroelectric project takes water from the Fonseca river. It is a low-head hydro power project with a design flow of 54m3/s. A reservoir is formed by a 108 m long, 16 m high concrete dam equipped with hinged flaps over the dam. The water is conducted to an intake and desander tank. The water is then conducted through a trapezoidal channel to the headpond incorporating a side weir, a flushing channel and two pairs of gates at the beginning of the penstocks. The headpond is connected to the powerhouse by two short penstocks . The powerhouse houses two vertical Kaplan shaft units.

CARBON Engineering was contracted by SARET, (EPC contractor for the project) to perform the final design and construction plans for civil works .
